A Modern Oceanfront Wedding at Misselwood Estate
Set along the rocky coastline of Massachusetts’ North Shore, Misselwood Estate at Endicott College is one of the most breathtaking oceanfront wedding venues in New England.
We are beyond thrilled to share that this wedding will be featured in Wedding Chicks this August! It is such an honor to see this beautiful day recognized and shared on a national platform, and we cannot wait for even more people to experience the magic of this day!
With panoramic views of the ocean, historic architecture, elegant gardens, and a reception overlooking the water, it is the perfect venue for couples planning a classic coastal wedding in Massachusetts. Julia and Eli’s wedding day beautifully blended modern design with intentional moments, emotion, and the kind of joyful celebration that reminds you exactly why I love my job.
As my first wedding of the season, this day could not have been a more meaningful way to begin the year. Every part of their day felt thoughtful and personal, from the emotional speeches to the custom details honoring their dog, to the way their family and friends showed up with so much warmth and excitement throughout the entire day.
Getting Ready at Misselwood Estate
One of the things I love most about photographing weddings at there is the incredible variety of portrait locations throughout the property. Julia spent the morning getting ready in one of the estate’s bright window-filled suites featuring beautiful checkered floors, soft white and teal interiors, and gorgeous natural light pouring through every window. The room photographed beautifully and created the perfect backdrop for bridal portraits that were both editorial and timeless.
Meanwhile, Eli got ready in one of the estate’s historic wood-paneled library rooms, which brought such a classic feel to the beginning of the day. The contrast between the airy bridal suite and the rich warmth of the library gave the day so much visual variety while still feeling cohesive to the overall aesthetic of the wedding.
Julia also took some of her bridal portraits in another stunning wood-paneled room inside the estate. The combination of the historic architecture, soft natural light, and her modern gown created some of my favorite portraits from the entire day.
A Love Story That Began at Summer Camp
Julia and Eli first met when they were both just 17 years old while working as overnight camp counselors at Camp Rotary. Although they attended different high schools, they ended up going to prom together before eventually attending different colleges. After freshman year, Eli transferred to the University of Delaware, where the two ultimately graduated together.
Eli later proposed during what Julia believed was a fancy family lunch in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Along with Julia’s mom, he created an elaborate fake story involving relatives Julia had never met before in order to convince her to dress up for the occasion. On the drive to lunch, Eli stopped along the coast at a beautiful oceanside garden and proposed there overlooking the water, completely surprising her!
Throughout wedding planning, Julia focused heavily on creating an experience centered around the people they love most. Since the two had only ever attended one wedding each, and had never even attended a wedding together, their wedding felt incredibly intentional and personal from beginning to end. More than anything, they wanted the wedding to feel joyful, welcoming, and deeply centered around their favorite people all being together in one place.
Oceanfront Wedding Ceremony Overlooking the Atlantic
The ceremony took place overlooking the ocean with panoramic waterfront views that make Misselwood Estate such a sought-after coastal Massachusetts wedding venue. The floral design featured a modern palette of greens, pinks, and mauves that felt romantic, refined, and very on trend for weddings this year.
One of my favorite design elements from the day was the ornate floral installation surrounding the estate fountain. It added such an elegant garden-inspired feel to the overall wedding design while still feeling modern and understated.
The ceremony itself was incredibly emotional. Their vows, the reactions from family members, and the overwhelming sense of support from everyone attending made the entire experience feel deeply intimate despite the larger guest count.
Waterfront Portraits on the Rocks at Misselwood Estate
After the ceremony, we explored the grounds of Misselwood Estate for portraits before heading down to the rocky coastline overlooking the ocean. One of my favorite parts of the property is the dramatic waterfront rock formations that create some of the most stunning oceanfront wedding portraits on the North Shore.
As the sun began to set, we returned outside for golden hour portraits around the estate before ending the evening on the rocks by the water.
Tent Reception at Misselwood Estate
The reception took place inside the estate’s tent overlooking the ocean. The reception design continued the modern coastal aesthetic with lush green, pink, and mauve florals layered throughout the space. Candlelight, soft textures, and romantic florals transformed the tent into an elegant and welcoming environment for guests.
One of the sweetest personalized details from cocktail hour were the custom tennis balls Julia created in honor of their dog, such a playful and thoughtful touch that perfectly reflected their personalities.
From the emotional speeches to the packed dance floor later in the evening, the reception felt incredibly warm and celebratory. It was impossible not to feel the amount of love surrounding these two throughout the entire day.
This year I have the joy of photographing three weddings at Misselwood Estate, and I always look forward to returning. It’s one of my favorite coastal New England wedding venues because every celebration here feels elevated, intentional, and visually timeless.
The combination of ocean views, historic architecture, and tent reception space makes Misselwood Estate incredibly versatile for wedding photography. Beyond the setting itself, the vendor team is consistently kind, organized, and collaborative, which makes the entire wedding day experience seamless for both couples and creatives.
What stands out most is how this venue brings out the best in people. There’s a natural ease and joy throughout the day that leads to some of the most genuine, emotional, and beautifully candid moments. For couples planning a Misselwood Estate wedding, it’s the kind of place where you can truly be present with your people while still creating stunning, editorial-quality imagery from start to finish.
