A Classic Charleston Wedding at Lowndes Grove
Lowndes Grove Plantation is one of Charleston’s most recognizable waterfront wedding venues, set along the Ashley River with wide lawns, historic architecture, and iconic oak trees. For couples planning a Charleston wedding, it offers a balance of open-air ceremony space and classic Southern estate design.
This editorial was photographed at Lowndes Grove Plantation in Charleston, SC, in collaboration with a team of local Charleston wedding vendors. The focus was on creating a refined, modern interpretation of a Lowndes Grove wedding, highlighting the venue’s riverfront setting, historic architecture, and natural light.
Ceremony Inspiration at Lowndes Grove
The ceremony design was set on the lawn overlooking the gorgeous foliage with Spanish moss, featuring a minimalist structure accented with soft white drapery and floral details. The installation was intentionally kept simple to allow the surrounding landscape to remain the focal point.
The setup reflects how a ceremony at Lowndes Grove can feel when paired with thoughtful, design grounded in the environment.
Couple Portraits at the Ceremony Site
Following the ceremony setup, portraits were taken directly at the altar location in front of the white draped backdrop. This created a cohesive visual connection between ceremony and portrait work while maintaining a natural flow through the space.
The imagery focused on understated movement and interaction, using the structure and fabric as a soft framing element without overwhelming the scene.
Outdoor Reception Tablescape
The reception design was set outdoors along the waterfront, featuring long tables styled with neutral florals, layered textures, and candlelight. The layout emphasized the open-air setting and allowed the Ashley River views to remain visible throughout the design.
As light shifted into the evening, the tablescape transitioned naturally from daylight to candlelit dinner, highlighting how Lowndes Grove functions in both daytime and evening environments.
Sunset Portraits at Lowndes Grove
Sunset portraits were photographed across multiple areas of the property, including the riverfront and oak-lined lawn. The golden hour light created a soft, directional quality that worked well for both wide environmental portraits and more intimate frames.
This portion of the editorial was designed to show how Lowndes Grove offers consistent portrait locations without needing extensive styling or direction.
Interior Mansion Portraits
Indoor portraits were also captured within the historic interiors of Lowndes Grove. The neutral architecture and natural light allowed for simple, editorial-style imagery that contrasted with the outdoor portions of the shoot.
These frames highlight how the venue can support a full wedding day flow, from interior getting-ready spaces to outdoor celebration areas.
