Cate and Brad’s engagement session started at the Boston Public Library before we made our way over to the Boston Public Garden for the second half of the morning. Between the beautiful historic architecture, classic outfits, and quiet moments together, it was such a lovely way to explore two of my favorite spots in the city.
Boston Public Library Engagement Photos
We started the morning at the Boston Public Library, where Cate wore a little white silk dress and Brad paired khakis with a classic white button-down. I loved how simple their outfits were against the library’s historic architecture.
The Boston Public Library is such a beautiful setting for portraits, and it’s easy to see why so many couples are drawn to it for their wedding day. The architecture brings so much to the photographs without needing much else, and I love the combination of more composed portraits with the in-between moments that happen naturally throughout a session.
For couples considering a Boston Public Library wedding, engagement photos here are also a lovely way to get a feel for the setting before the wedding day. The space lends itself to a more editorial style of photography, while still leaving plenty of room for images that feel personal and true to you.
One thing to keep in mind is that photographing an engagement session at the Boston Public Library takes a little extra planning. Professional photography requires a permit from the library, and sessions are only permitted on weekdays between 7 and 9 AM. The permit costs $800 per hour, so it's worth planning your session in advance and having an idea of the photographs that matter most to you before arriving.
While the early start requires a bit of coordination, the library is such a special setting for photographs, especially for couples who love historic architecture and a more classic, refined feel.
Boston Public Garden Engagement Photos
After finishing up at the library, we headed over to the Boston Public Garden for a completely different look. I love that these two locations are so close to one another but offer such different backdrops. The library feels architectural and formal, while the garden brings in greenery, winding paths, and a little more room to slow down.
For this part of the session, Cate changed into a white cotton dress with a blue sweater draped over her shoulders. Brad kept his khakis and white button-down, adding a blue jacket that tied everything together. Their outfits felt relaxed and classic, and I loved the subtle color against the garden's greenery.
The Public Garden is one of my favorite places for Boston engagement photos because it gives couples the opportunity to move around, walk together, and settle into the session without everything feeling too posed. I always want to leave room for those little moments that happen in between the portraits, whether it's a quick laugh, a quiet moment together, or simply enjoying being out in the city.
